2020 still seems like it is so far to me but here we are, just a couple days shy of 2020. Before we say goodbye to 2019, I wanted to recap the year because life gets so busy throughout the year, we forget how much we’ve grown until we look back and reflect on all the amazing things we did.
Software Engineering and Work
Last year was my first year as a software engineer so it was all about getting comfortable in my role. This year, I was about to push myself harder outside of my role.
1. I got promoted from associate software engineer to software engineer!
2. Became a mentor
3. Got certified as a Scrum Master and AWS Cloud Practitioner
4. Went to my first tech conference (AWS re:Invent)
This year took me on 28 flights, 3 new countries, 5 new states and 5 different cities/towns local to North Carolina. Here are my TOP 3 THAT YOU SHOULD PUT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST.
3. The Great Smoky Mountains
Honestly pretty surprised this made the list because I wasn’t expecting much from the trip but the views just BLEW me away. I didn’t realize how underrated National Parks are for travel destinations. Hoping to visit Yosemite in 2020. Read more about the trip here.
2. Palawan, Philippines
Named as some of the best islands in the world, Palawan looks like it's straight out of a Condé Nast Traveler magazine. With clear waters, secluded lakes, limestone cliffs, and sandbars, this place is so beautiful I can't believe it's real life.
1. Oahu, Hawaii
Palawan had better views and beaches but Hawaii had to come in first because it has EVERYTHING. Both beaches and mountains, hiking, shopping (some luxury brands are cheaper here), and really good food. I really want to explore the island more in the future! Read more about the trip here.
1. Started this blog!
I've been hesitant for the longest but finally pulled the trigger this year! This little project has challenged me to stay creative and learn new skills outside of coding. More to come next year.
2. GOT ENGAGED!!
Very exciting life MILESTONE here. I know everyone's waiting on the tea for this so I'll dedicate another blog post to this ;)
That's all for this year! Trying to set up some goals for 2020, what are you guys proud of this year and what are some of your goals for the next?
